Rijgsel #1, voor het hek 2023
In my work I try to question the monumental and static character of sculptures through an ongoing investigation into movement. I take up this challenge in 'Rijgsel, voor het hek'; a sculpture that is subject to domestication. It adapts to its environment and is dependent on another object, in this case a fence. For me this work shows the ongoing search for a balance between freedom and the often invisible limitations of our daily lives. The sculpture does not let itself be held back by the fence, but chooses to use it as a support. The sculpture invites itself. At the same time it resists by neutralizing the fence.
